  A long weekend for our first ever visit to Raleigh to catch up with old friends took us meandering around the city, and into this basement Oasis. Our hometown of Detroit, a now recognized foodie town, is filled with hipster laden craftie houses where $18 cocktails are the norm. The exposed brick, and repurposed basement look at Foundation, is reminiscent of cocktail palaces in the D. The pricing here, is not. A menu that has most drinks in the $10-$12 range, and a snobbery within me that I didn't even know existed, had me immediately suspicious. Could this really be a craft cocktail experience at discount prices?
  The bar wasn't packed, but busy enough I observed our host, Kyle building a couple of drinks before our party ordered. He moved efficiently, and gracefully, bantering with customers as he worked. It was a joy to watch, because you could tell he worked joyously. By the time he came to help us out, I already liked the guy. And his service to us was just as fun.
  My Manhatten ($8) was spot on, and my bride opted for the "Strange but not a stranger," ($10) a stirred mix of Kill Devil Rum, grapefruit, lemon, honey, Peychaud's, soda, and Black Sea salt. It was an original that danced through your mouth starting with a salty rum burn quickly extinguished by citrus and finishing sweet.
  Our bar hopping had been planned for a single drink at each stop. Foundation, and Kyle, was too much enjoyable to be Held to a schedule. We stayed for another, trying and sharing eight different drinks between our party of four. All were at least very good. All made even better with the banter we shared with the affable Kyle.
  This spot brings great craft cocktails, at reasonable prices, without the pretense. Foundation makes what the craft experience should be...Fun.
  I highly recommend it.

  Foundation is by far my favorite bar in Raleigh! I moved here around 11 months ago and everytime I come in they are always very welcoming and treat me like an old friend. Plus they consistently serve amazing cocktails! Their Bourbon and Whiskey collection is plentiful so you can always find something to quench your thirst. If you are visiting Raleigh or looking for a new bar I HIGHLY RECOMMEND checking out Foundation!
